Ways To Get Superior Publishing Methods With The Aid Of Computers
For many people, finding the right solution to printing out clear and concise images has become an art form in itself. Usually, the older methods of printing meant that some colors would bleed into the surrounding areas giving an indistinct look to the finished result. To this end, an image setter (computer output device) and screen plate setters (raster image processor) have cured the problem to some extent and many now use this technology to attain the required result.
With the computer output device the rolls of film are actually exposed to bromide paper which takes up the image of the subject matter. The result is a very clear monochrome image which can then be used in the printing process. Although the image is anywhere between one and four feet, the image is remarkably clear for such a large image. But this kind of image making has really been improved upon with the raster image processor. This machine produces a lithographic plate which can be applied to an offset printer for mass production of newspapers and such. Both these forms obviously apply to making lithographic plates for mass producing images which is needed in flyers and the like. Even colored photographs can be produced in this way and has led the market in producing very color filled inserts which most papers now include.
But before the printing begins, these plates must be looked at to make sure that there are no mistakes. By using these methods to produce the plate, checking has become much simpler. It used to be that every page was made up in one block, and by hand, and had to be inked and pressed onto whichever medium was to be used. Compositors did this but these days this is rather old fashioned, expensive and and not quick enough for modern times. Before any kind of mass production takes place, all the copy has to be checked thoroughly to take out any embarrassing errors. For this, the industry has several terms it uses to show where or if there are any errors and some are self explanatory.
Copy editing means that any reports are checked over for accuracy in detail, photos which match the captions and any mistakes caught before the whole thing is sent for printing. Then the proof reader has his turn to double check spellings and grammar so that no embarrassing mistakes will get into print. Proof readers are actually given a copy of the finished product to view as a reader would see it. But ‘proofers’ do the job of making an exact copy so that the finished result can be inspected.
It is obvious then that there are very many processes to complete before anyone can buy the newspaper. Even photos which are colored have to have separate plates for each individual color (this is why these style magazines are expensive) before they look like they should. But by doing this process this way, the image becomes more crisp and clear and therefore a clearer image for the reader. Of course, for those who want to have hand printed invitations or specialized pieces of work, there are companies who still produce small batches of commemorative work but they will look better than mass produced but cost more.
